Built is built on a simple principle: your data stays on your device. There is no account and no server-side copy of it — the only things that leave your device are the requests you send to the AI features, described below.
There are no user accounts. You never create a login, and we never ask for your email address, phone number, or any other identifier.
Your profile, logs, and photos are stored locally on your device. We keep no user database and no server-side copy of them. Deleting the app or clearing its data permanently removes this information; we cannot recover it because we never had it.
On iPhone you can connect Built to Apple Health. If you do, we read your height, weight, body-fat percentage, age and biological sex to set your calories and macros, and we write your weight check-ins and logged meals back so your other health apps stay in step. You choose which of these Health grants when iOS asks, and you can withdraw any of them at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health.
Health data is read on your device and stored on your device, exactly like the rest of your profile. It is never sent to our servers, never used for advertising or marketing, never sold or shared with anyone, and never used for any purpose other than the coaching you asked for. Health data is not shared with the AI provider unless it appears in something you type into the coach yourself.
Built contains no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind. We do not sell, share, or broker your data.
The AI features work by sending what you give them to our AI provider (Anthropic, or OpenAI as a fallback) to generate a result. This happens only when you use the feature:
This data is processed in transit to produce the response. We do not store it, we keep no record linking it to you, and under our providers' commercial API terms it is not used to train their models. All traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).
